    The mission of ARMS is to challenge the stigma surrounding mental illness through art as a forum for self-expression, healing, and dialogue. With a wide variety of events for everyone from professional artists to beginners, ARMS creates a space for individuals with mental illness to develop new work, share their experiences, and expand their audience. By welcoming allies and community members, providing a platform for open and honest discussions of mental health, we hope to generate both individual and institutional progress in destigmatizing mental illness.

    Irish immigrants founded the Rhode Island Ceilidhe Club in 1956 for the purpose of uniting the Irish and Irish-American people and providing a place to hold social activities and share their common heritage. Our beautiful little hall and pub are located in Cranston, RI, and there we host pub nights, lectures, classes, ceilis and concerts…as well as special events and our marvelous St. Patricks’ Day corned beef dinner! Here you will find an old fashioned welcome, a cozy pub with the game on of an occasional Sunday, tea and your favorite beverages, and some of the best Irish traditional music around. Céad míle fáilte!     Mark Binder writes and tells stories for readers and listeners of all ages. He is the author of more than 20 books and audio books for all generations. He tours the world as a performer, transmitting the joy of story across boundaries. A writer who creates at least one new project every year, whether it’s a printed book or an audio book, an ebook or a play. Mark is constantly pushing boundaries, while keeping his diverse audiences of readers and listeners engaged. A performer with more than twenty years of programs in schools, libraries, theaters and festival for nearly 200,000 listeners of all ages. Every year Mark gives more than 100 presentations across the United States and around the world. Recently, he was featured in the Amazon/Audible series, “Story Live.” (visit https://transmitjoy.com/) Education… Mark studied mythology with T.E. Gaster and storytelling with Spalding Gray at Columbia University, mime and dance with the Adaptors Movement Theater. He earned an MA in English and Writing, Acting and Directing from Rhode Island College and the Trinity Rep Conservatory. He holds a third degree black belt in Aikido, studies centering and internal power, and promises not to throw you across the room. (visit https://transmitjoy.com/) Entertaining, Inspiring, Challenging  Whether written or told, Mark’s stories are always fresh and new. Some are pure fun, while others address issues, soothe fears and inspire change. Because he has such a broad assortment of stories, books and audio, he can work from a theme or offer “Omakase” stories that suit the day and the audience. Everyone who listens or reads is transported And more…  Mark is the founder of Light Publications, an independent publishing company. He created Bright Night Providence, The Real Fun Theater Company and the American Story Theater. He has worked as the editor of magazines, designed books, and produced award-winning books and audios. He has been programming computers since 1977, and is constantly learning and adapting to changing technology.  He has twice run for political office, and came close to winning once.

    Founded in 1997, New Urban Arts is a nationally-recognized community arts studio for high school students and emerging artists in Providence, Rhode Island. Our mission is to build a vital community that empowers young people as artists and leaders to develop a creative practice they can sustain throughout their lives. Our free, year-round out-of-school programs promote sustained mentoring relationships between urban high school students and trained artist mentors—who, together, engage in youth leadership, risk taking, collaboration, and self-directed learning. We are grounded in the belief that in order to fulfill the promise of our democracy, all young people, no matter their place in society, should have the opportunity to become more creative and independent thinkers.

    Nonfiction@Brown is the Brown University Nonfiction Writing Program’s annual lecture series celebrating the diverse voices that define this ever-more-popular and relevant genre. Our series honors working writers in various nonfiction genres, including literary reportage, lyric essay, personal essay, creative nonfiction, podcasting, journalism, and biography, amongst many others.     Visit Out of the Box Studio & Gallery in Jamestown, RI to view the work of 20+ collaborating artists. Here you’ll find work in a variety of mediums including: printmaking, painting, sculpture, fabric, collage and other mixed media. The space was created to give artists with disabilities the resources and freedom to create without limitation or restriction. It provides a safe place to express and explore individuality, creativity, and personal growth. Full participation and collaboration are fundamental values of this studio. Artists in the collaborative describe Out of the Box as a place they can work freely, try new things and share ideas with other artists and art enthusiasts. If interested, you can purchase works of art at Out of the Box Gallery at 11 Clinton Avenue. The studio is open Monday through Saturday and also offers numerous art events throughout the year. You’re welcome to stop in and visit our space, view the work, meet the artists, and check out what we are up to!”

    More than 250 of Rhode Island’s writers, journalists, illustrators and podcasters belong to What Cheer Writers Club, a 501c3 nonprofit organization devoted to serving the needs of the writing community in the ocean state. Based in downtown Providence, the Club is open seven days a week and offers meeting spaces, a podcasting studio, a library with writing nooks and pen-name postal mailboxes. The Club also offers programming on topics ranging from how to get grants, to book publicity and freelance gig listings, to help professional writers succeed at the business end of writing. Members also enjoy discounts on writing craft classes held by other organizations, as well as discounts at independent bookstores throughout Rhode Island. For avid readers and podcast fans, the Club offers ‘Pressing Matters’ a weekly feed listing all of the state’s upcoming literary and podcast events. Currently Pressing Matters tracks more than 1,000, mostly free, events per year in RI.

    Mission Statement: The Purpose of the Association shall be to educate, encourage and inspire its membership, the local arts community and the general public and to promote fine arts in the community. The Wickford Art Association is a non-profit arts organization which supports arts in the community along with its 400 plus members. Our gift to the community, the Wickford Art Festival now in its 57th year of bringing over 200 fine art artists to Wickford Village over 2 days in July. Ranked #5 best fine art festival in the USA in 2017, the festival is free to attend for over 50,000 art lovers. WAA Gallery hosts up to 14 fine art exhibits, over 50 classes, community events, theatre productions, Artist Collaborative and Photographic Arts Group along with a place for members and the community to meet and view art.
