August 23 was International Day for the Rememberance of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and it’s Abolition. The Womxn Project presents visual art light projections and live performance, outside at Brown’s University Hall to Illuminate slavery in RI.
Through light projections and performance, The Womxn Project seeks to build our collective memory of the history of slavery in Rhode Island and make connections to struggles for racial justice and equity today. The Womxn Project chose Brown University’s most iconic building, University Hall, as a site for Artivist Projections to illuminate the fact that enslaved people not only lived and worked in Rhode Island, but they built some of our state’s most significant buildings.
