Illuminating the Legacy of Slavery in Rhode Island

Illuminating the Legacy of Slavery in Rhode Island

Presented by The Womxn Project at Brown University - 200 Dyer Street

Through light projections and performance, The Womxn Project seeks to build our collective memory of the history of slavery in Rhode Island and make connections to struggles for racial justice and equity today. The Womxn Project chose Brown University’s most iconic building, University Hall, as a site for Artivist Projections to illuminate the fact that enslaved people not only lived and worked in Rhode Island, but they built some of our state’s most significant buildings. Visual Art by Devon Blow, script by Marlon Carey, performance by Catia, scholar advisor – Marco McWilliams, hosted by the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice. There are no tickets or seating for this outdoor public art intervention.
