It is Newport’s oldest fine arts gallery, moving to its present location on Bowen’s Wharf in the heart of the city’s historic waterfront in 1976. From its second and third floor galleries in a historic waterfront building, the gallery overlooks Newport harbor with its historic America’s Cup yachts, sailing ships, and working vessels.
Centrally located, the wharf is at the base of Newport’s Historic Hill, known for its charming and exceptionally preserved streets lined with clapboard houses dating from the early 18th century. To the east are the famous late 19th century mansions of the Gilded Age. Within the gallery, paintings on two floors are exhibited in Old World "salon style" in an intimate environment that is frequently compared to "a small museum". Visitors are encouraged to browse, ask questions, and enjoy some of the finest art available in New England.
