It is amazing what you can accomplish when people care! Because of the generosity of people, foundations, and businesses, in June 2013 ARLSRI broke ground on what promises to be one of the most thoughtful, contemporary shelters in New England. From this state-of-the-art building, ARLSRI staff and volunteers will be able to continue the incredible work of one of the area’s leading no-kill rescues of surrendered, abandoned, unwanted, or abused animals. Spacious and full of light, the new shelter, being built directly behind the current, outdated 1,800 square foot shelter — in existence since 1970, will be one of the finest animal rescue facilities in Rhode Island. Under the direction of ARLSRI’s Building Committee, and Matt Davitt, president of Davitt Design Build, the new 6,000 square foot shelter boasts the following features:

  • Twenty spacious dog kennels with radiant heat
  • 40 cat cages
  • 10 cat isolation cages
  • Free-roaming indoor play areas for catsImproved outdoor play areas for dogs
  • New shelter layout allows for greater separation between dogs and cats, a benefit to both
  • Dedicated space for meet and greets and completing adoptions
  • Natural light
  • State-of-the-art HVAC system
  • Enhanced design to ensure optimum hygienics
  • Increased storage space
  • Administrative offices and a community meeting room all under the same roof
