Painted Utility Box

 Providence, RI, 02905

Bright colored graphics with outlines is the style Brent uses to convey and communicate several thoughts to observers in an attempt to positively influence behavior.  The use of artwork to convey his message presents it in a visible yet non-threating manner.  “Respect” aims to make people know that they are important and they should respect the fact that their life is precious.  It hopes to convey compasion to other people and our world too.  Phrases like “A clean neighborhood is a good neighborhood” and “please don’t litter” which are incorporated into the piece help to reinforce Brent’smessage.

The Art Transformer Project, organized by the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism, is geared towards the recognition and celebration of local artists. Artists were asked to paint City of Providence utility boxes with original designs. Once professionally painted, these utility boxes in neighborhood business districts will contribute to the vitality and attractiveness of the urban streetscape and deter graffiti.
