The Rhode Island Center for the Book was established in 2003, and is an affiliate of the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The Rhode Island Center for the Book was created to celebrate reading, writing, making and sharing books across Rhode island, and is a cooperative effort of many Rhode Island readers, writers, publishers, librarians, educators and book artists. The Providence Public Library was responsible for submitting the original proposal to the Library of Congress, and PPL continues to support and work closely with the Center.
