More than 250 of Rhode Island’s writers, journalists, illustrators and podcasters belong to What Cheer Writers Club, a 501c3 nonprofit organization devoted to serving the needs of the writing community in the ocean state.

Based in downtown Providence, the Club is open seven days a week and offers meeting spaces, a podcasting studio, a library with writing nooks and pen-name postal mailboxes. The Club also offers programming on topics ranging from how to get grants, to book publicity and freelance gig listings, to help professional writers succeed at the business end of writing. Members also enjoy discounts on writing craft classes held by other organizations, as well as discounts at independent bookstores throughout Rhode Island.

For avid readers and podcast fans, the Club offers ‘Pressing Matters’ a weekly feed listing all of the state’s upcoming literary and podcast events. Currently Pressing Matters tracks more than 1,000, mostly free, events per year in RI.
