Moutouzkine and Friends in Concert

Moutouzkine and Friends in Concert

Presented by Jamestown Community Piano Association at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

Three pianists and a flutist will entertain at the Jamestown Community Piano Association concert in Jamestown.  Alexandre Moutouzkine, well remembered in Jamestown for his performance at a JCPA concert in 2015, will perform Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 2, in B-flat minor.  “Starting this September,” he explained,” I’ll have a series of five recitals at Carnegie’s Weill Hall performing all of Rachmaninoff’s solo piano works and it will be a good chance for me to present a very little part of that to the Jamestown public.”

Moutouzkine is bringing with him two of his students, Grace Han and Yong Murray.  Han is an honors student at Manhattan School of Music where Moutouzkine did his post-graduate work and is now on the faculty.  Murray has studied with Moutouzkine for the past two years at Columbia University.  Both young pianists are winners of the Rondo FORMA Young Artists competition – Murray in 2015 and Han in 2016.

The surprise addition to the program is Moutouzkine’s brother, flutist Ivan Mutuzkin.  Ivan is visiting from the family’s native Russia where he has been a teaching Artist in Residence at the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory since 2009.  The author of “Experimental Flute in Twentieth Century Music,” based on examples of compositions for solo flute by contemporary composers, Mutuzlin has performed as a soloist and with orchestras in Italy, Spain, Norway, England, and throughout Russia.  Together the brothers will perform Giulio Briccialdi’s Fantasia on “La Traviata.”

The Jamestown Community Piano, a seven-foot Schimmel grand, was purchased by public subscription in November 2001.  The Jamestown Community Piano Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to maintain the piano for use by the community and to present concerts that feature the piano.
