The book club at Wingate Residences on the East Side will discuss ‘Jailbird’ by Kurt Vonnegut. This wry tale follows bumbling bureaucrat Walter F. Starbuck from Harvard to the Nixon White House to the penitentiary as Watergate’s least known co-conspirator. With dark humor, Vonnegut shines a light on the nature of power, politics and greed—a commentary on modern times. The Wingate book club launched nine years ago and remains one of the community’s most popular programs; since its inception, the club has read more than 100 books. Book club meets the fourth Monday of each month and is free and open to the public.
