Arts Retro: 40 Years of Art in Pawtucket

Presented by Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture at Pawtucket City Hall

Celebrate the history of the arts in Pawtucket with the Arts Retro: 40 Years of Art in Pawtucket gallery exhibition.  The exhibition reflects on a commitment to the arts and appreciates the diversity of contemporary art that is produced throughout the City.

The City of Pawtucket has long served as a haven for members of the artistic community to thrive and grow.  This commitment to art and culture was initiated in 1975 with the creation of the Pawtucket Community Arts Council and efforts made by former mayor Dennis M. Lynch to attract National Endowment for the Arts funding.  Since that time, dedicated residents and community leaders have organized a range of programs intended to encourage creative endeavors and enhance the impact that local artisans have on the City’s cultural and economic landscape.  Today, the City of Pawtucket is home to dozens of galleries, performance spaces, public art installations, creative youth programs, and cultural organizations.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture, and contributing organizations include: Flying Shuttles Studios, VSA, Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, Mad Dog Studios, Exchange Street Open Studios, Dawn at the Grant, Tunstall, Mathieu Senior Center, Blackstone Valley Tourism Center, and RHD-RI.
