Glorious Brahms, a Requiem for the Living

Glorious Brahms, a Requiem for the Living

Presented by Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra at Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul

For the final concert of our 6oth season celebration, Maestro Markward has chosen two beloved works by Johannes Brahms, Variations on a Theme of Haydn and Ein deutsches Requiem. Both of these works are loved by musicians and audiences all over the world and the Requiem especially has a place dear to the collective hearts of the members of RICCO. Brahms chose the texts himself from the Luther Bible and them in such a way as to provide comfort and uplift to those who hear it and perform it. Furthermore, he wrote it in the vernacular of the people and thought of it as a “people’s mass.” It is a large-scale work in every way, and we are delighted to be joined by members of the Sippican Choral Society from Marion, Massachusetts and its fine conductor, Tianxu Zhou.
