Lippitt Lab: Spotlight on Victorian Women

Lippitt Lab: Spotlight on Victorian Women

Presented by Lippitt House Museum at Lippitt House Museum

What was life like for women and children in 19th century Providence? Glimpse life in the Victorian age and learn about the role of women both at home and in the community. Investigate etiquette rules by writing a 21st century “etiquette manual” with the Providence Comics Consortium’s Walker Mettling and Julia Gualtieri. Discover the elements of a woman’s finishing school education and learn some techniques of needlepoint. Learn how Lippitt daughter Mary Lippitt Steedman helped found the local chapter of the American Red Cross in Providence in 1916. View a traveling exhibition honoring the RI Chapter’s 100th anniversary and find out about the service the Red Cross provides to Rhode Islanders.
