Intermediate Class: Oil & Acrylic

Presented by Courthouse Center for the Arts at Courthouse Center for the Arts

Many of the masters of oil painting used a method that involved using multiple layers of paint over time. We will investigate that process by doing a modified version of their techniques! During the first class we will compose and under paint an 8X10 board with burnt umber and titanium white ACRYLIC paint. The next day we will over paint that effort with opaque and transparent colored OIL paint. The class is Wednesday and Thursday July 27th and 28th from 10am-2:30PM. Supplies will not be provided.

This class is taught by Daniel Lake. Dan is a juried artist member of Wickford and the South County Art Associations who lives in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Dan paints impressionist oils featuring Rhode Island images, as well as portrait works. He has displayed his work in various New England venues. Most recent among his awards are a Juror’s Award for oil painting in the April 2014 South County Art Association’s Open Juried Painting and Drawing Annual Show and a first prize award in the Bristol Museum of Art’s February 2016 annual juried show. His portraits have been recently displayed in the “Support and Defend Veterans exhibit at the VETS Gallery in Providence Rhode Island and as part of a traveling “Beyond the Diagnosis” exhibit meant to bring awareness of children with rare diseases to the medical community. Dan’s work was influenced by Wassily Sommer, an Alaskan artist/teacher with whom he worked for 10 years in Anchorage, Alaska, and by artists Sergei Bongart, Ron Lucas, and Del Gish, a group who held summer workshops in Rexburg, Idaho.
