The Decade That Roared: A 1920s Rhode Island Experience

Presented by Friends of Hearthside Inc. at Hearthside House Museum

The fascinating decade of the 1920s is center stage as Hearthside House Museum presents The Decade That Roared: A 1920s Rhode Island Experience being held on the grounds and inside the museum. While all the familiar aspects of the Roaring 20s come to life during this day and evening event…cool jazz, glamorous flappers, vaudeville acts, gorgeous fashions, live radio and speakeasies, there is a more serious note.  Hearthside’s carefully researched exhibition also offers deeper insight into the complexities of the growing pains from a post-war America into a modern society:  rapidly changing values, women’s right to vote, prohibition. racism and political isolationism.  Throughout the exhibit, Hearthside will be chronicling the national influences as they took place right here in Rhode Island, in Lincoln, and even on the Great Road where Hearthside is located.  Also part of the celebration is a Bootlegger’s Ball and Speakeasy (seperate admission) that gets underway at 5pm with a Speakeasy serving up signature cocktails, followed by Charleston lessons and the Bootleggers Ball with live music.

The event is presented by Friends of Hearthside, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, for the purpose of raising funds for the continued preservation of the 200 year old mansion.  The organization is celebrating its 15th anniversary with this spectacular exhibit and event.  Major support for the event includes RI Council for the Humanities, Navigant Credit Union, The Valley Breeze, Alphagraphics, Cinemaworld, and the Town of Lincoln.
