Jane’s Walk is a weekend of free, community-led walks designed to bring people together to explore urban spaces.
Jane’s Walk is celebrating its 10th year in Providence! Multiple walks will take place Friday-Sunday, May 3, 4 and 5, throughout the city.
Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories, discover unseen corners of their cities, and use walking as a way to connect with one another. Walks are led by local residents and community members and are free to all participants. Topics from previous Jane’s Walk Providence have included history, architecture, diaspora communities and immigration, transportation and mobility, food, public art and performance, public space, community development, and neighborhood quirks and characters. There’s something for everyone!
Jane’s Walk was inspired by Jane Jacobs, a writer, urbanist, and activist who championed a community-based approach to creating livable cities. It began in Toronto, Canada, in 2006; in 2024, Jane’s Walks will take place in over 500 cities and 40 countries around the world.
