We Are The Wind: Community Art Workshop with NBS Artist-in-Residence

We Are The Wind: Community Art Workshop with NBS Artist-in-Residence

Presented by Norman Bird Sanctuary at Norman Bird Sanctuary

Please join artist-in-residence, Nina Elder, for a fun and hands-on kite-making workshop to culminate her stay at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. Nina will share her artistic insights regarding erosion, landscape change, flight, wind, and human impacts on the land. Then participants will design and create their own kite. Nina Elder’s residency will begin with a free lecture as part of our 75th Anniversary Sightlines Series on Thursday, March 21st. We highly encourage attendance at both the lecture and the installation, to experience and participate in the full breadth of Nina’s work on campus.

Materials will be provided at the workshop, but you are also encouraged to bring items that interest you, such as photos, texts, magazines, pieces of cloth, ribbons, trash. The kites are intended to be sculptures that channel your own creative inspiration. This program will become the basis for Nina’s major multi-media installation, Sedimental, which visitors will be able to explore on the Norman Bird Sanctuary campus in the year ahead.
