Breeze Against Wheeze 5K is a race organized by Alpert Medical School students to fundraise for the Community Asthma Program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Proceeds go directly towards their Asthma Camp, which supports Rhode Island children ages 9-13 with moderate and severe asthma, who often come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The comprehensive educational program provides children with the tools, knowledge, and resources to control their asthma under the guidance of physicians, therapists, and EMTs. Campers learn to be more independent and active in management of their asthma in a fun and interactive setting, where they are able to participate in swimming, arts and crafts, and sports. The annual race has drawn upwards of 150 participants in the past, with wonderful support from the greater Providence community.
