Kingston Chamber Music Festival

Presented by Kingston Chamber Music Festival at University of Rhode Island

The Kingston Chamber Music Festival, now in its 34th season, is excited to announce that the Dover Quartet will bring what the Wall Street Journal calls their “masterly nuanced…gutsy and earthy sound” to Rhode Island this July for a three-concert residency.

“Few young American ensembles are as exciting and accomplished as the Dover Quartet,” wrote The New Yorker, and BBC Music Magazine has named them one of the greatest string quartets of the last century. Among the works the ensemble will perform during their KCMF residency are the premiere of “Memoir,” a theatrical musical piece by Grammy Award-winning composer Steven Mackey, and “The Evergreen,” by Caroline Shaw, the youngest ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for music.

Kingston Chamber Music Festival Artistic Director and pianist Natalie Zhu matches renowned performers with provocative programs that will take audiences on a sonic journey that celebrates both the earliest luminaries of classical music and the newest stars in the classical constellation.

Other highlights of the seven-concert festival include an all-Bach piano recital by the Leipzig Bach Competition prize winner, soloist Hilda Huang, and a mind-expanding Mozart-to-Ellington program featuring Curtis on Tour, anchored by Curtis President and renowned violist Roberto Díaz and clarinetist David Shifrin, artistic director of Yale’s Oneppo Chamber Music Series.
