Johannes Vermeer (1632 – 1675), remembered popularly as the painter of The Girl with The Pearl Earring, is one of the most loved Dutch painters of the Baroque period. Although less than 40 works are attributed to him, his art legacy continues to draw interest from artists and art historians around the world. In this engaging Zoom lecture, presented live from Amsterdam, Dutch art historian Drs. Kees Kaldenbach will discuss the life and work of Vermeer. Drs. Kaldenbach will discuss how Vermeer emerged as a super-specialist in interior scenes. Utilizing works like Vermeer’s View of Delft and the Art of Painting (Artist in Studio) as examples, Drs. Kaldenbach will illustrate how Vermeer’s work explains contemporary life in Delft. Additionally, he will explore some of the psychological tricks of the painter’s trade. The Art Club is thrilled to welcome an international museum educator of Drs. Kaldenbach’s caliber for what is sure to be a fascinating program.
