La Feria del Libro y las Artes de Providence

This family-friendly festival is suitable for all ages and the first 50 people to arrive will receive a free book! Doors open at 9:45AM at the Center at Moore Hall, Providence College, Providence RI 02908 and activities continue throughout the day. Light refreshments and Union Burrito food truck will be available. Admission is free.

Participants include keynote speaker, Dominican storyteller and performer Josefina Baez, Brown University Latinx scholar, Ralph Rodriguez, Cuban Director of Core Programs and Faculty at GrubStreet, Dariel Suarez, bilingual children’s author, Anika Denise and Cuban-American science fiction and fantasy graphic novel writer, Carlos Hernandez. A visual art interactive exhibition, Passengers, Cartographies of the Underground by Professors Nuria Alonso García and Leo Morrissey will be on display. Nuria Alonso García will also facilitate an Intergenerational Storytelling session based on the personal narrative work, Lo Nuestro,that she and Carolina Briones, Latino Program Coordinator for the Providence Community Library, developed with adults from the Renaissance Adult Care Center in Providence.

Other enlivening events include performances by Dominican folk group, Los Cibaeños, puppet shows from Arte Latino of New England, an acting workshop with ECAS, family folk dancing led by el Maestro Nader Molina Figueroa and film showings from Providence Latin American Film Festival.  Honorary co-chairs, R.I. Secretary of State, Nellie Gorbea and Providence Mayor, Jorge Elorza will open the festival, with remarks that celebrate the importance of Latino cultures in Rhode Island.

La Feria del Libro y las Artes de Providence is presented by the Providence Community Library and Providence College, with event partners Raising Readers in Rhode Island, the City of Providence, Rhode Island Center for the Book and Pawtucket Public Library and is supported in part by a generous grant from Providence Department of Arts, Culture + Tourism and sponsorship from Poder 1110FM and America News en Español.
