Laura Tohe is Diné from the Navajo Nation, holds a Ph.D. in Indigenous American Literature, and is the Navajo Nation Poet Laureate for 2015-2019. A librettist, novelist, and award-winning poet, her books include No Parole Today, Making Friends with Water, Sister Nations, Tséyi, Deep in the Rock, and Code Talker Stories. Tohe has written on topics from boarding schools to Navajo code breakers, all with her culture and community as the creative centerpiece. Across an array of media including memoir, poetry, prose, photojournalism, and opera she explores themes related to tradition, womanhood, nature, history, and spirituality.

As a part of Lincoln’s Bold Voices Speaker Series, Tohe will be sharing her perspective, process, and passion at Lincoln School on Thursday, October 10 at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Joseph R. and Jeffrey R. Paolino Fund.
