Traditionally, Juneteenth is celebrated by African Americans to celebrate our emancipation from slavery; however, during our first annual Juneteenth RI celebration we are looking to create a celebration to conjoin people of the African Diaspora (Americas, Caribbean and Africa) through arts and culture. Through music, dance and food at this celebration we hope to elevate the access of arts, specifically those of Africana cultures, as it is imperative to Rhode Island’s people and its diversity.
