CMW Sonata Series at RISD Museum: Franck & Soulage

Presented by Community MusicWorks at RISD Museum

Community MusicWorks’ popular Sonata Series continues as Minna Choi and Chloë Kline join guest pianist Eliko Akahori for a study in historical contrasts – two great sonatas by French composers: one celebrated and one unfamiliar.

César Franck’s 1886 violin sonata might be the most famous in the repertoire: a sprawling drama for the 19th-century salon, as performed by Minna and Eliko. Composer Marcelle Soulage studied with the most well-known names in French music and taught for decades at the Paris Conservatory, but her music remains relatively unknown – Chloë and Eliko’s performance of her 1926 viola sonata will be a discovery not to be missed.
