Artists Speak: Documentary Filmmaker Mary Healey Jamiel

A 2018 Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) Film & Video Fellow, Jamiel was a recipient of the Audience Award at the 2016 Boston Film Festival & Palm Springs International Film Festival Best of the Fest Award. She received her BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Rhode Island College in 1990and her MA in Mass Communication from Emerson College in 1994.

Today, Jamiel is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island where she teaches documentary production and critical studies courses. Her film, “Holy Water-Gate,” broadcast nationally in the US onShowtime, the Documentary Channel, and internationally in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Denmark,Spain and Austria. Her award-winning film, “SEARCHDOG” is now available internationally on iTunes and Amazon.

“Artists Speak” is made possible in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA), through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Other funding is provided through the Rhode Island Legislative Grant Program, BankNewport and the Jay Barry Cultural Arts Foundation.

IFA strongly encourages student artists, emerging and mid-career artists, as well as those interested in the arts to attend “Artists Speak” events. A video and monograph featuring all four artists will be created for public enrichment following the lecture series.
