Open Rehearsal for "Singing the Dream" Chorus

Join singers of all ages, races, faiths and talent levels for a “Singing the Dream 2019” performance chorus. Open Rehearsals for this musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday October 28, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, Bohnen Vestry, 99 Taft Avenue in Providence, R.I.

Professional, amateur, student, and members of faith-based choirs are encouraged to join, as is anyone from the community who is willing to participate in this unique civic and cultural event that brings singers together for an afternoon of song and fellowship. No prior chorus or singing experience is required!

Featured special guest for “Singing the Dream 2019” is Joshua Nelson, a soulful pianist/singer and recording artist known as “The Prince of Kosher Gospel.” Born and raised Jewish, Mr. Nelson is an African-American from South Orange, N.J. who was greatly influenced by Mahalia Jackson (the Queen of Gospel Music). Mr. Nelson has performed around the world for presidents, a prime minister, and Oprah Winfrey. He has also sung with the Wynton Marsalis, Billy Preston and the late Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway and Dizzy Gillespie, and served as the subject of an acclaimed documentary film entitled “Keep on Walking.”

Members of the “Singing the Dream 2019” chorus will have the opportunity to sing with Joshua Nelson as soloist and will perform songs with his backup band and singers in accompaniment. The performance is scheduled for late January, 2019.
