Arts Emanu-El of Temple Emanu-El presents “Happy 70th Anniversary, Israel: Let’s Sing the Songs of Our People!” a musical celebration of Israel’s 70th year as a nation and homeland of the Jewish people. The program features songs of Jewish immigrant groups and Israeli pioneers, songs of the Iraqi Jewish tradition and settings of texts by Israel’s legendary poets.
This musical celebration welcomes two special guest artists. Cantor George Mordecai, Temple Israel Center, White Plains, NY, is originally from Australia born to Iraqi and Indian Jewish parents, who will sing the music of the Iraqi Jewish tradition. Professor Hankis Netsky, New England Conservatory of Music, is a multi-instrumentalist and founder of the Klezmer Conservatory Band, who along with eight band members, will perform selections of contemporary Jewish music. Shir Emanu-El, the adult choir at Temple Emanu-El and HaZamir, International Jewish High School Choir (Providence Chapter), join together to sing the songs of the Eastern European immigrants and Israeli pioneers’ experience.
