First Fridays is pleased to announce its third concert of the season. Eric Hofbauer’s Prehistoric Jazz Quintet will play the program “Reminiscing in New England,” with original arrangements of modern classical works for Hofbauer’s third-stream jazz chamber group.
The program features a premiere of Duke Ellington’s R?eminiscing in Tempo, and selections from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Messiaen’s Quartet For The End Of Time, and Charles Ives’ Three Places in New England. As Hofbauer puts it, “The Prehistoric Jazz series is less about jazzing the classics … and more about celebrating the common ground between the 20t?h? century modernists and postmodern jazz improvisation.”
The quintet features Eric Hofbauer on guitar, Todd Brunel on clarinet and bass clarinet, Jerry Sabatini on trumpet, Junko Fujiwara on cello, and Curt Newton on drum set.
