Providence Community Library’s (PCL’s) Alternative ComicCon was so much fun in 2016 that the Library is bringing it back for a second year! Alternative ComicCon is a small scale comics convention for local residents, especially kids and teens, who are excited about comics, manga, and illustration and want to experience this passion in a more interactive way.
Olneyville Library will transform into a mini-convention hall and collaborative space where participants can interact with inspiring Providence artists and arts organizations. Exhibitors include Big Nazo, which will show off some of its amazing creature creations; Providence Comics Consortium, which will offer screen printing and group drawing. Providence Roller Derby girls will roll in with button making and more, while Providence City Arts for Youth will provide an animation workshop. Local artists Jeremy Ferris and Olivia Horvath will offer, respectively, a large scale collaborative drawing and an animation workshop. Author, artist and children’s book illustrator Cathren Housley will provide a creative arts workshop. There will be a comic book giveaway and costumes are encouraged!
