Henry Kramer in Concert

Presented by Jamestown Community Piano Association at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

Pianist Henry Kramer returns to Jamestown on October 15 for a recital.  The Jamestown Community Piano Association concert is the second in their 2017-2018 season.

A Maine native, Kramer last played for Jamestown audiences in March 2016.  His program this year cover almost 200 years of musical composition. His concert begins in the 18th century with Sonata No. 9 in D Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, continues through the 19th with pieces by Johannes Brahms and Isaac Albeniz and ends in the 20th century with Etudes Opus 7 by Igor Stravinsky.

With his range of interest, Kramer is fast establishing himself as one of the most exciting young pianists on today’s concert stage.  The winner of the 2015 William Petschek Recital Debut Award from The Juilliard School, and the Second Prize winner of the 2016 Queen Elisabeth Competition, he also received top prizes in the Honens, National Chopin, Montreal, and China Shanghai international competitions.  He gave his European debut in solo recital at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, made an unprecedented appearance in Havana, Cuba, as a cultural ambassador, and has performed with orchestras in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Kramer holds degrees from The Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music, where he received the Charles S. Miller Prize for the most outstanding first-year pianist. He currently serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

The Jamestown Community Piano, a seven-foot Schimmel grand, was purchased by public subscription in November 2001.  The Jamestown Community Piano Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to maintain the piano for use by the community and to present concerts that feature the piano.  A reception in the church hall will follow the performance.  The concerts are free.  Donations for piano maintenance and performance support are appreciated.
