Henry & Roy: A Hollywood Day Player Delivers D-Day

Henry & Roy: A Hollywood Day Player Delivers D-Day

at WaterFire Arts Center

Charlie Sweigart records his ninety-year old father reminiscing about his participation in the Normandy Invasion of World War II.  Realizing his father’s anecdotes have very strong similarities to passages in Shakespeare’s “Henry the Fifth” he peruses Shakespeare’s history plays and is surprised by parallels in stories 529 years apart.

A one-man show pointing up the relevancy between Shakespeare’s commentary on war and a ninety-year old gunner/radioman’s memories of D-Day.  The younger Mr. Sweigart exists as connective tissue between the fear and ridicule, the noble and the pathetic, nimbly leaping between 1415, 1944 and into 2001.

Classically trained in a university conservatory program, Charlie Sweigart slid into the maw of situation comedies, cop shows and feature films that still have the temerity to mildly embarrass him.  After teaching high school English and selling for a Fortune 500 company he needed a project to redeem the actor in himself.
