I’m Kathryn Weenig, a multidisciplinary writer and visual artist. Raised throughout the United States, I now reside in Providence, Rhode Island.

I use art to confront dominant narratives of femininity and beauty, embracing the unruliness of our bodies and lives. In the process, my practice explores tensions between girlhood and womanhood, as well as their interactions with place, spirituality, corporeality, memory, and the margins. As undercurrents of these themes, experiences of oppression and liberation, trauma and play, and loss and renewal weave through my work. Most of the images in my visual artwork are of my own family.

My first art practice was street and documentary photography, and in 2011, I worked as an award-winning student journalist. Additionally, I have presented and written on art and media as tools for well-being, research, and social action, including for multiple United Nations initiatives.
