Steve Jobe has produced a range of unique and eclectic programs, including his operas, both on his own and in conjunction with major arts organizations First Works, Pawtucket Arts Festival, Sandywoods Music and Blackstone River Theatre. Each year, Steve acts as ringmaster for the Hurdy Gurdy Palooza, where he collects musicians and ensembles composing for and playing the unusual instrument that is his specialty, the hurdy gurdy. He is the caretaker and master of the world’s largest wheel-fiddle, known as the BOSCH HURDY GURDY, which he designed after the famous musicial instrument featured in the Heironymus Bosch tryptic, The Garden of Earthly Delights. Steven Jobe’s compositions are a wild blend of folk music sounds, compelling rhythms and inventive tone color combinations. With pieces ranging from fiddle tunes to a string quartet, a couple of concertos and an opera, he is at once traditional in his emphasis on melody, but also unconventional in his tone color inquiries. If he doesn’t have the instrument for the sound he hears, he designs it.
