Initially, small numbers of new and “gently” used books were collected from local friends and neighbors and distributed at day care and community centers. Soon the word spread and the number of books delivered to the Dennigan home increased dramatically.
In 2003, Books Are Wings incorporated into a 501 (c) 3 non- profit organization, governed by a board of directors. Going back to the roots of the organization, Books Parties expanded outside local libraries and parks and began programming in Elementary Schools, Head Start programs, Community Centers and more.
