ReSeeding the City: Ethnobotany in the Urban

Curated by Judith Tolnick Champa, this exhibition called ReSeeding the City: Ethnobotany in the Urban is part of The Year of the City: The Providence Project initiative. It features more than 30 probing works by 20 extraordinary artists. They spark awareness of never latent, yet often unrecognized, interconnections between nature and urban life, especially botanical nature’s roles and guises. The contemporary artists, practicing across NE, respond to often-contending forces of people and plants in the urban setting. At times they posit a relationship of impasse regarding nature in the urban; at others, they inspire reconciliation. The sense of inquiry in the work will resonate with the historic venue of the RI people’s State House, a site perfectly suited for productively re-seeding this debate.
