Queer is Lit

In collaboration with QTZ Fest & our neighbors Binch Press / Queer.Archive.Work the Queer Writers Group at LitArts RI will be hosting Queer is Lit, a series of free, drop-in workshops between 11am-2pm on Sat, Sept 2, along with a hands-on collage table and opportunity to browse work by members of the group. No registration required; stop by our “satellite” locale at 400 Harris Ave, Unit E after browsing vendors at QTZ Fest at The Steel Yard!

Drop-in Workshops:

11:30-12:00pm “Imagining Childhood: A Generative Workshop” with Luke Dani Blue

Ready to start a new project or jump-start an old one? Stop by to learn and practice a quick-start technique for generating new content for comics, poetry, personal narrative, and fiction. You’ll be guided through through a dream-like Lynda Barry exercise to conjure sensory impressions from your past(s), both real and imagined.

1:30-2:00pm “Art of the Chapbook” with JD Scott

Like the zine, the chapbook is an object of smallness & brevity. These small booklets, often containing poetry or fiction, embrace DIY aesthetics. Come through to discover the history of chapbooks, learn how they differ from full-length books, & practice strategies to make one.
