For Ms. Remillard ‘Night Mother is “about suffering and control and, more specifically, about a fractured but loving mother/daughter relationship and their tragic, mutual efforts to ultimately deny, avoid or assuage their suffering. Directing this play has been a painful reminder to me that love and caring are actions, not just solitary sentiments, and those we love can’t feel the caring we don’t show. “
“Jessie is really one of the most remarkable people I’ve ever come to know,” says Audrey Lavin Crawley, who portrays the tragic character. “She is not perfect or without fault but she is so grounded in her convictions and she knows exactly who she is and is at peace with that.”
“Thelma faces the universal task of letting go of her child,” say Becky Minard, who plays the desperate mother. “Although she must overcome the barriers of mutual dependence and the unbearable prospect of solitude, the hope of this dark play lies in Thelma’s ultimate acceptance.”
