Each year the Newport Antiques Show presents a selection of over 40 of the industry’s most distinguished antiques dealers in one venue alongside a loan exhibit and series of educational lectures. This year the Show will continue to feature a diverse selection of antiques and will include an educational component, but it will also host dealers who have a more modern focus such as photographs. Additionally the Show will highlight “exhibit vignettes” in a series entitled Curating the Future: Trends in Collecting Today presented by the Newport Historical Society, which will showcase objects from the NHS collection that illustrate the changes in collecting antiques or “curiosities” since the Society was founded in the mid-19th century.
Also new to the Show, visitors can meet with experts from America’s oldest auction house Freeman’s on Sunday July 24th. Learn what your favorite antique object, piece of fine art or jewelry is worth during What’s It Worth. Receive a personalized verbal auction estimate for one or two objects from a Freeman’s specialist, some of whom appear on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow. A special admission ticket is required for What’s It Worth, which includes a Newport Antiques Show gift bag.
