Friday Community Dance Series

Brown University’s Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies’ dance program invites one and all to its Friday Community Dance Series.  Sponsored by the Fund For Dance @ Brown University and established in honor of Julie Adams Strandberg, this free series incudes everything from West African Dance & Drumming to Rhythm Tap (and everything inbetween).  Although everyone is welcome please note some classes require previous dance experience (*).

• September 16: Doria Charlson- teaching a dance from Spring Awakening*
• September 23: Ephrat Asherie – vernacular jazz dance, contemporary street & club dances from NYC (additional class on Saturday September 24 at 10am)
• September 30 & October 7: Shura Baryshnikov – contact improvisation; a nonverbal communication with a partner through exchange of weight & touch
• October 14: Bill Evans- master class: Rhythm Tap*
• October 21: Bill Evans (4–6pm)- master class: Evans Laban/Bartenieff-based dance technique*
• October 28: Matthew Cumbie- post-modern dance & release-based modalities
• November 4: Gierre Godly- modern dance class (co-sponsored with Fusionworks)
• November 11: Jorge Morejo- creative ritual-making & restoration of Areito, an indigenous Caribbean dance (co-sponsored through a Fitt Residency with Monique Mojica)
• November 18: Seydou Coulibaly with Sidy Maiga (4–6pm)- West African dance & drumming
• December 2: Jessica Pearson- Horton, Limon, & Dunham dance techniques (co-sponsored with Fusionworks)
