Join us as we celebrate Higher Ground International with African-inspired dinner, music, dancing, live auction and fashion show. The event’s theme is “Bringing the Village Together!” The evening will focus on the Village Leader Awards (VLA) where leaders in the community will be recognized for their dedication and work impacting the African community.
Ms. Massa A. Washington, a journalist by trade and a women’s rights and civil society activist by passion, will join the event with a keynote presentation. The gala will also feature a lively fashion show of African textile designs manufactured by Higher Ground’s social enterprise, Broken Pieces. Produced by Yemi Sekoni, owner of Donahue Models & Talent, the show will be the event’s apex celebration of Higher Ground International.
Awards will be presented to three outstanding members of the Higher Ground community:
- Kingdom Chief Award (symbol: cow’s tail) – Councilwoman Sabina Matos, Providence City Council President Pro Tempore
- Paramount Chief Award (symbol: cane) – Mackenzie L’Maree, board president of Higher Ground International
- Clan Chief Award (symbol: broom) – Anthony Abu, Volunteer and Freelance Photographer, Artist, and Owner @ VQ1 Studio
Event proceeds benefit Higher Ground in serving the people of West Africa, both here in our local RI communities and in West African rural villages.
