Ralph and Barbara Papitto founded Read to Succeed in 2008 to provide a new educational opportunity that greatly improves the futures of at-risk Providence minority students while increasing their reading proficiencies to combat the summer learning loss. Read to Succeed is free to children, parents and our three partner schools – Community Preparatory School, Highlander Charter School, and Bishop McVinney Elementary School. These students read six books over the summer and earn a $1,000 scholarship into their Rhode Island CollegeBound Saver account each summer for five years- that’s a potential $5,000 towards college tuition.
This summer, we will enroll 430 4th through 8th grade students from our three devoted South Providence partner schools and distribute 2,500 books to these students. To date, Read to Succeed has delivered 5,608 books and $598,000 scholarships. We have budgeted over $300,000 to be awarded for college scholarships – a new Read to Succeed record! Please consider joining us for this PPAC Marquee Room Reception and the award-winning performance of Chicago.
