Soapstone is the easiest of stones to carve and offers the satisfying challenge of working in the round. Beginners gain a foundation in reductive sculpture techniques, yet the beauty of the stone and the finishes that can be achieved appeal to more advanced students as well. Inspired by Inuit carvers and monumental Modernist sculptors, we plan and create wonderful, flowing forms using saws, files, rasps and chisels. Bring your best ideas and a cold drink!
