Ashley Farmer will share her research on women in the Black Panther Party, which draws from a vast and untapped array of black women’s artwork, political cartoons, manifestos, and political essays that they produced.

Professor Ashley Farmer from the University of Texas at Austin will speak the multi-faceted roles that women played in the Black Panther Party’s organizational and ideological development, and to how they crafted the ideal of the “black revolutionary woman” in popular and political culture. Her research draws from a vast and untapped array of black women’s artwork, political cartoons, manifestos, and political essays that they produced.
