A Jubilant Bach Christmas

The RI Civic Chorale and Orchestra will be joined by the Chamber Chorus of the RI Community College, led by Dr. Joseph Amante, in this wonderful holiday music performed in all its glory in English.

RICCO’s opening concerts, featuring J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Weihnachts Oratorium), marks the first time in the Chorale’s distinguished history that it will perform this jubilant work and the first time in nearly twenty-five years that it has been performed in Providence. Comprised of six separate cantatas, each presented on a different day of the Festival of Christmas (beginning with the birth of Jesus and ending with Epiphany), it was first performed during Christmas in 1734. Our performance includes cantatas 1 – 4 plus the last dramatic recitative and moving chorale from cantata 6. The work will be performed in English.
