For nearly half a century we have been celebrating this in our International Community Festival.
The festival is held on the last Sunday in September recalling our patron, St Michael the Archangel.
Our International Liturgy begins at 10am followed by a street festival on the grounds of the church from 11am to 5pm and concludes with the drawing of our major raffle prizes.
Multicultural food, entertainment, games and the opportunity to be part of a world community right here in South Providence make the Festival a very special day every year.
In addition to being an opportunity for us to gather together in the strength of community, the Festival also serves as a major fundraiser to support the ongoing ministry and social justice work at St. Michael\’s.
We hope you’ll join us!
Historical Note on the Origins of the Festival: the very first Festival was a pot luck dinner on the lawn of the church organized by two of our then smallest and newest groups at St Michael’s. Our Black Togetherness Group and our Spanish members under the inspiration of Lucy Santa created this first event as a way to come together as a community, to get to know one another, and to break down any barriers that existed at that time as our neighborhood diversified. Clearly their idea lives on in our Festival every year as our now very diverse community comes together to celebrate, share food, enjoy multicultural entertainment, watch the kids playing together on the grounds, and now also to raise funds to keep the parish moving forward.
