I began painting watercolors while traveling around Europe in 1989. With a small sketchbook and some water soluble colored pencils I documented my trip of a lifetime. I was simply hoping to record some memories of a great trip, but in the process I found a career. In the years that have followed I have developed my craft, learning from the artists who have inspired me. For the past 15 years I’ve maintained a studio in the small town of Westerly, RI. The area is becoming recognized as an artist community. Painting has provided many unexpected joys in countless forms: the act of creating something completely new on a previously blank sheet, the satisfaction of recreating what unfolds before my eyes, the sublime beauty I have witnessed after waking up at an ungodly hour to get a jump on the day, a feeling of magic when something accidental happens that transforms a painting into art, and most importantly, the sense of connection I feel with others through this form of communication. For these and other reasons too numerous to mention I am blessed.
