Artist Statement: I have always been fascinated by color. For years now through my drawings I have been exploring the power that color has on our emotional experience. Working with silkscreen, digital printing, quilting and graphite/ink drawing has allowed me to experiment with this concept. In conjunction, I have developed my own visual language using symbols I’ve created and defined. This allows me to not only examine color’s impact but also the effect of narrative and repeating pattern by the arrangement of the motifs. My goal as a visual artist is to convey a relatable, emotive involvement with the viewer. This connects us all in the human experience of love, passion and of course pain. Bio: Brooke Erin Goldstein is an artist and designer living in Providence RI. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Textile Design. She was born in New City, NY and began taking art and sewing classes at the age of 3. As a dedicated entrepreneur, she currently owns and operates 3 businesses including Brooke Erin Goldstein Art and Design.

Southside Cultural Center is a place where artists, educators, parents and students can come together to broaden and embrace the community through education and the arts. Our vision is to offer a wide range of music, dance, theater, and visual arts classes and performances to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The Southside Cultural Center building is a very unique venue that has a long history of community engagement since 1914; since then, the building has evolved for future generations to utilize the area for important community-based programs that improve the well-being of the general public. The building is a historic and monumental one that is enlisted on the National Historic Register as one of the oldest buildings in Providence, RI. Over the years, the aging building has slowly deteriorated and caused alarming issues. Trinity Restoration Inc. was developed in 1998 in hopes of restoring and preserving this wonderful building to promote diversity, culture, and the arts to revitalize the surrounding community. Trinity Restoration Inc seeks to do this through Southside Cultural Center, one of its non-profit ventures, that was created in 2008. Southside Cultural Center is a project that involves some new construction as well as the future use of renewable energy technologies to bring down the cost of operating the building and eco-friendly to the future of our environment. Southside Cultural Center currently houses a 350-seat theater, a common area (Community Space room) that can seat up to 150 people, kitchen, and multiple rooms that may serve as classrooms, rehearsal rooms, studios, and offices. These spaces are all available for rent. They may be rented for a few hours or for a long-term commitment if vacant. Early reservations are accepted, please call (401) 228-3630. Our partners are very valuable to us! They bring diversity, talents and special events to Southside Cultural Center on a regular basis. Christopher Thomas

Anyone, around Providence, RI, who knows Christopher Thomas’ Steampunk artwork, knows that it is like opening Christmas gifts wrapped in pretty decorations. You can’t just admire the beautiful wrapping paper and ribbon; you are anxious to know what is inside. And once you open the artwork, you find an even more beautiful and very unique surprise. Since a major seizure episode, in 2007, that caused him to hit his head, and land him in the hospital, Christopher Thomas has been seeing gears and patterns that have caused him to create some of the most beautiful pieces of Steampunk Art. Some of these pieces have been featured in local art galleries and shows such as the AIDS Care Ocean State Annual Art Beat Auctions, the Storybook Ball hosted by Women and Infants Hospital, the AS220 Gallery, University of Rhode Island Steampunk Art Show, and the list goes on. The designs for these gears and patterns come to him during episodes of severe migraine attacks that will cause him to go without sleep for days. These migraines and seizures that occur in Thomas’ life are his inspiration for all of his artwork. The designs explore the inner crisis that is happening while he is having a migraine or seizure. If you happen to hear him talk about destroying a piece that he has created, it is because it reminds him of what he went through during that particular episode. Thomas does not have any formal training or education in art, accept from high school, but he does have a degree in Physical Therapy, which he received from the University of Rhode Island in 1991. He gives credit to his inspiration from watching his father when he was younger. Thomas’s father was very detailed when it came to drawing beautiful pictures. Having no formal education makes his ability to create these beautiful pieces of art simply amazing. His first piece was of a clock that he designed for his father; which his father was unable to see finished before he died. Thomas truly believes that his talent is a God-given gift. Thomas was born and raised in Rhode Island and is currently a native of his hometown. He is heavily involved in his community and ultimately desires to use his gift as a platform for other migraine sufferers.

Thomas Terceira

Thomas Terceira is a craftsman and a designer. He has shown his jewelry, enamels and collages nationally and internationally. He has been creating collage, decoupage and mixed media art work for many years. His collage works have been featured in the Rattle Magazine March 2016 Ekphrastic challenge, in Issue No. Two of Drowning Gull and in foliate Oak Literary Journal.

Harmony Pots

Harmony Pots began as a creative adventure using Hypertufa materials such as peat moss, perlite and Portland cement to create a plant pot that is durable, porous, hydrophilic (water-loving), earthy and well suited for perennials, cactus and indoor/outdoor plants. Plant pots of all sizes, shades, shapes and textures are handmade in Rhode Island and not only enhance the natural look of succulents and perennials, but serve a functional role as well allowing air-flow to the roots of a plant and therefore enhancing plant growth.
