    The Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, also known as the RISD Museum, is Rhode Island’s leading museum of fine and decorative art, housing a collection of 84,000 objects of international significance. It is southeastern New England’s only comprehensive art museum and is accredited by the American Association of Museums. The RISD Museum strives to be a vital cultural resource by educating and inspiring a wide variety of audiences: families and individuals, scholars and researchers, artists and designers, and students of all ages. The Museum maintains an active program of exhibitions, lectures, tours, workshops and publications dedicated to the interpretation of art and design from diverse cultures ranging from ancient times to the present.

    Admission:

    Members: free
    Adults: $15
    Senior citizens (age 62+): $12
    Youth (ages 5–18): free
    Children under 5: free
    College students: $8 with valid college ID
    Staff, faculty, and students of RISD or member institutions: free with valid college ID

    Admission is free every Sunday (10 am–5 pm) and on the third Thursday evening of each month (5–9 pm).

    The RISD Museum is proud to be a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families (INFO).


    Hours:

    Tuesdays through Sundays, 10 am-5 pm
    Thursdays, 10 am-9 pm

    The Museum is closed on Mondays and on the following holidays: January 1, July 4, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25.


    Parking Information:

    The Metropark lot at the corner of North Main and Steeple Streets offers half-price parking to Museum visitors. Validate your parking stub at the Museum's front desk.
     


    Accessibility Information:

    All galleries are wheelchair accessible. The Museum has one wheelchair for visitor use at each entrance. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Service dogs are welcome in the Museum.


     

    Technical Specifications:

    Shopping & Eating: Located in Chace Lobby, RISD WORKS features work by alumni and faculty of the Rhode Island School of Design. It offers a selection of sandwiches, drinks, and snacks. (No food or drink in the galleries.)

    Coatroom: Bags and coats may be left in the self-service coatrooms at the North Main Street or Benefit Street entrances. The Museum requires visitors to check large bags and backpacks of any size.

    Strollers: Strollers are permitted; please use elevators when traveling between the floors. The Museum has two strollers to loan for use during your visit, available at the North Main Street or Benefit Street entrances.

    Photography: Photography for personal and educational use is allowed in Museum galleries except where specifically prohibited. No flash photography.  Tripod and monopod use is by special permission only. Permission must be requested from the Registrar’s Office one week in advance. Filming and videotaping are not allowed without special permission. No photographs may be reproduced, distributed, or sold without permission from the Museum. Please see the Museum Policy on Photography and Filming for more information.

    Sketching in the Galleries: Pencils only in the galleries; markers and pens are not permitted. RISD students interested in copying works in wet media should consult these guidelines.

    The Radeke Garden: The Radeke Garden is open seasonally, from April to November. It is closed for inclement weather.

    Event Rental: The RISD Museum is a unique setting for your event. Companies or associations may rent spaces in the Museum for receptions, dinners, and meetings. See the Event Rental page for more information.
